The Safe Screen BC program, administered by the Ministry of Health and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), helps employers implement voluntary COVID-19 workplace screening for asymptomatic employees in close contact settings.
Participating organizations get access to rapid antigen tests. Completed via nasal swabs, these tests detect viral proteins and deliver results within 15 to 20 minutes. Rapid antigen tests should not be used on individuals experiencing symptoms or anybody who has had close contact with a positive COVID-19 case. These individuals should instead seek a lab-based diagnostic PCR test.
In addition to the rapid tests, Safe Screen BC provides:
- support, tools and resources (including facilitated virtual training sessions) for setting up and executing onsite rapid screenings
- software for managing PHSA reporting requirements
- a library of employee FAQs
Participants will be asked to contribute to the cost of services included with the program; however, test kits are being provided for free through the Health Canada Rapid Screening Program.
