As part of its efforts to support small businesses affected by the increasing costs of property crime and vandalism, the BC government has introduced the Securing Small Business Rebate Program. Businesses with less than 50 employees can now access funding through two rebates being offered.
Reparative rebate
Up to $2,000 is available for:
- repairing or replacing property damaged by vandalism not covered by insurance; or
- paying the insurance deductible
Eligible businesses can apply for this rebate once per calendar year.
Preventative rebate
Up to $1,000 per business is available as a one-time rebate for implementing measures to prevent or minimize damage from vandalism such as installing shatterproof glass or protective film, security gates or shutters, exterior lighting enhancements, cameras and recording equipment, alarm and monitoring systems, anti-graffiti coatings, etc.
This program is retroactive to January 1, 2023 and will remain open until December 31, 2024. A successful application will be paid within 35 business days assuming minimum follow-up is required for additional information from the applicant.
Deadlines
- Applications for expenses incurred in 2023 will be accepted until February 29, 2024
- Applications for expenses incurred in 2024 will be accepted until January 31, 2025.
