Part 2 comes from Paula Garrecht of our Kelowna office. Her favourite trip takes her down south of the border into Washington.
My favourite overnight trip is to Lake Chelan. The best time to go is between June and September. Starting in Kelowna, take Highway 97 South and cross the border at Osoyoos. Los Camperos in Brewster is a great lunch spot for authentic Mexican food. From there, it’s another hour or so to Chelan. The total one way distance is about 300 km and around 4 to 4.5 hours of riding time.
For modest and affordable accommodation, the Midtowner Motel on the main drag in Chelan is motorcycle friendly with a pool ready for you to cool off in after a long day of riding. It’s within walking distance to downtown and dinner at Campbell’s Pub & Veranda on the lake is always fun.
In the morning, you can grab breakfast at Apple Cup Café across the street from the Midtowner before heading back.
There are good two-lane paved roads the entire way and lots of options for side trips i.e. Winthrop, Leavenworth. You can take an alternate route home through Nighthawk-Chopaka Border Crossing, Highway 3 West to Keremeos and Highway 3A to Penticton.
