Preparedness

Those who have experienced flood issues in the past and those with properties near any bodies of water should be prepared with an emergency plan, an emergency kit along with any tools required to minimize potential water damage. The Government of BC website provides comprehensive guides and resources on flood preparedness.

Sandbagging is the best way to keep water at bay. If you are anybody you know reside or have property in flood-prone areas such as the Central Okanagan, stockpiles of sandbags are available at many local fire halls. You can find sandbag sites on the map shown on the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations website  along with flood alerts and other resources and instructions for flood preparedness and response.

Water levels can rise unexpectedly so be cautious around any bodies of water and keep your loved ones away from creek banks.
